Bob Grisham’s choice words included, “fat butt Michelle Obama” and the proclamation, “I don’t believe in queers. I don’t like queers. I don’t hate them as a person, but what they do is wrong and an abomination against God.”
Also, he has been stripped of his fifth period psychology class for the remainder of the year. According to Mark Butler, the school system’s personnel director, has assigned Grisham to sensitivity training, and he will be evaluated on a monthly basis.
In response to the situation, Grisham admitted that he misspoke and said that his comments were made in a class debate.
According to resident Brad Tipper, “Bob Grisham is a good Christian man. If we had more teachers like him, we wouldn’t have a lot of the problems that exist today.”
Per the actions of the student who taped Grisham’s comments, not all members of the community agree with Tipper’s sentiments.
In a statement released by the Ralph Young, a member of Equality Alabama, he said, “All students should feel safe, welcome and able to learn” including the gay and lesbian students in Lauderdale County.
Frustrated resident Ricky Hamm and Grisham supporter said, “I don’t agree with kids getting to take cell phones in class. This never should have happened.”
What are your thoughts? Were Coach Grisham’s comments reason for discipline? Any thoughts about cell phone’s in the classroom?
