Kanye West designed Kim Kardashian's $1.6m 15-carat engagement ring... but how does it size up to Kris Humphries' bling?

She is known for being a fan of all things big, bold and beautiful. So Kanye West did a very good job when he designed the giant 15-carat sparkler from Lorraine Schwartz to propose to Kim Kardashian with at AT&T Park baseball park in San Francisco on Monday night.

But how does Kim's new super bling, thought to be worth upwards of $1.6 million, size up to the giant jewel the 33-year-old previously wore on her left hand wedding finger during her short lived marriage to Kris Humphries?

Fashion designer Kanye was involved in the entire creative process of the reality star's new rock, and when it came to choosing someone to collaborate with he knew exactly who to turn to - Kim's favourite jewellery designer and close friend, Schwartz.

Kim's publicist confirmed to the MailOnline that the rapper 'designed the ring with Schwartz'. 'Kanye was involved in every single way. He had a vision from the beginning. He looked at a lot of stones and he wanted only the best,' Lorraine Schwartz rep told E! Online.

'He and Lorraine emailed back and forth, and stayed up nights discussing how he wanted it to be. He wanted the diamond to look like it was floating on air. Everything was his idea from beginning to end.'

According to Schwartz's rep, the stone is completely flawless. 'The ring is flawless. Not just internally flawless, it's flawless. It's a D-stone, the best diamond there is, type 2A,' they added. 'It's a perfect cushion cut diamond.'

In the past, Schwartz has created gorgeous bling for many other celebrities, including unique engagement sparklers for Blake Lively and Beyoncé.

The 6ft 9in basketball star actually picked out Kim's ring with the help of Kris.

But unlike Kanye, who put on what can only be described as a huge production on Monday night, Kris opted for a more low-key proposal.

The athlete asked Kim by writing 'will you marry me' in rose petals on her bed inside her $4.8million Beverly Hills home.

After Kim accepted, the couple celebrated with the Kardashian-Jenner clan during a family dinner.

However, the moment wasn't entirely private, the whole time the cameras were rolling for the family's hit reality TV show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

'This impressive diamond ring was sought out by 2 bidders in the back of the room, one online bidder and was ultimately won by a bidder on the phone.'

It was confirmed back in August that Kris was selling the ring, which was originally reported to have cost him $2 million.

But following an estimate by Christie's jewellery experts, it appears that Kris paid far less for the ring than reported at the time.

And according to further reports, Schwartz was apparently annoyed that Kris auctioned off the ring, apparently making a $500,000 profit from what he originally paid for it.

Meanwhile, Kim has well and truly moved on from Humphries.

She has since had a baby daughter North West with Kanye, and will soon marry the rapper after he proposed on Monday night.

Third times a charm? Kanye is set to be Kim's third husband

In a snap posted on Instagram shortly after the proposal, Kim could be seen holding her ring finger towards the camera as she flashed her new gigantic dazzling engagement band while smiling broadly alongside her man.

She has since told E! that she's excited to 'marry her best friend'.

'Last night was truly magical!!! I am the luckiest girl in the world!' she told the website on Tuesday. 'I get to marry my best friend!'

Kanye was in Los Angeles earlier in the day on Monday at the Hollywood Film Awards, and it was therefore unclear whether he planned to spend Kim's birthday with her.

The rapper flew in from San Francisco Monday to present director Steve McQueen with a special honor award at the ceremony, and it appears he flew straight back to the Bay Area city straight afterwards to see the mother of his child.

Kim was allegedly seen boarding a private jet that afternoon with her family in Los Angeles.

Kris Jenner shared a picture with E! that showed the romantic proposal: 'PLEEESE MARRY MEEE!!!' which West had flashed on the giant scoreboard.

And she described the couple as: 'A match made in heaven!', adding: 'I am so happy for both of my kids, Kim and Kanye.'

Kanye, who is in the midst of a world tour, popped the question to the mother of his child after serenading her with a 50 piece orchestra.

The band struck up the romantic ballad Young And Beautiful from film The Great Gatsby by songstress Lana Del Rey, followed by his own hit with Keri Hilson and Ne-Yo, Knock You Down.

After Kim said yes, Kanye slipped the 15 carat diamond ring onto her finger and fireworks exploded in the sky as the rest of her family ran out of the dugouts.

The couple's upcoming nuptials with be Kim's third marriage, and Kanye's first.

After being friends for seven years, the pair first went public with their romance in April 2012.

Kim and Kanye - collectively known as 'Kimye' - quickly became inseparable and in December they announced they were expecting a child together, baby North, who was born on June 15.
