Kate leaves William to babysit and dons glamorous ball gown for charity gala at Kensington Palace

The Duchess of Cambridge left Prince William at home to babysit as she stepped out in a glamorous ball gown for black-tie gala event on Thursday night.

Just a day after Prince George's christening, Kate was the guest of honour at the Kensington Palace dinner in aid of people with addictions.

The Duchess swapped the sophisticated Alexander McQueen suit she wore to the christening for a stunning silk gown by one of her favourite designers, Jenny Packham.

We love seeing Kate Middleton in her red carpet finest. Her gown collection is mounting up, each one even more lovely than the last. And here, Kate chooses to wear one of her favourite British designers, Jenny Packham.

This gorgeous navy dress skims the Princess's body perfectly, showing off her post-baby figure. The chic capped sleeves, nipped in waist and soft pleating on the bodice all add to its charm.

Kate loves Jenny Packham's designs, it's official (although not from the Palace!). She has been seen in dresses from the designer time and time again. Remember that sparkly silver number she wore on the first red carpet after the new Prince was born? Yup, that was Packham.

The British fashion designer, who now actually shows her collections during New York fashion week, is a master in femininity and romance. She is well known for her bridal collections, but it's her red carpet gowns - also worn by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sandra Bullock - that really grab attention. She now has her own diffusion line for Debenhams too, check out the dress below.

Kate wears minimal jewellery and carries no bag. The dress does all the talking. It's fit for a princess!
